FUTURE TERRAINS
Final major project
My final collection ‘Future Terrains’ mirrors the utilitarian nature of survival within a dystopian environment, where fashion becomes endurance. With modular elements alongside 5 detachable backpacks, the garments reflect the wearer's imperative need for adaptability and resilience.
The silhouettes and garment features derive from deconstructed backpacks, military bags and armour as a physical representation of hyper-functionality. Between the two looks, there is a combined 246 interchangeable and modular options.

The menswear fashion industry often feels restrictive, adhering to societal expectations that prioritize practicality and safe, understated designs. These norms dictate a wardrobe dominated by basics and staple pieces—functional yet uninspired. But does it have to be this way?
There’s a certain irony in how clothing is often used by men to project masculinity, as if their sense of self relies entirely on outward appearances. This contradiction became the foundation for my concept: challenging traditional ideas of masculinity in menswear by embracing the unexpected.
Instead of designing to conform, I chose to approach menswear with humour and wit as my starting points. This collection reimagines what it means to dress with confidence, encouraging individuality, playfulness, and a departure from convention.
PAUL SMITH
live project / COMPETITION brief

The collection reflects the experience of a young man attempting to dress for the corporate world but struggling to get it "right." Drawing from personal memories of dressing inappropriately for a job interview, the concept highlights the mistakes, missteps, and anxieties of navigating professional dress codes. The result is a narrative-driven approach to menswear, capturing the playful essence of imposter syndrome, questioning how clothing choices alter perceptions through unconventional tailoring and playful styling…
